Abstract
Ever wondered what goes on in the mind of a Nature Research Journal editor when they are interpreting referee reports and making decisions on your paper, if cover letters are really import, or how to effectively ‘appeal’? In this interactive talk, the editorial process at Nature Research Journals will be demystified, with emphasis on Nature Photonics. We will discuss what is important to say in cover letters, how to appeal (and how not to appeal), and other types of opportunities for getting published (like Reviews & Commentary, etc.). Submissions and acceptance data will be shown, along with geographic trends. Bring all of your tough questions.
Biography
David received a PhD in physics (diffraction theory; extremely asymmetrical scattering) from Queensland University of Technology in 2003 (Dr Dmitri Gramotnev’s group) and was then a JSPS postdoctoral research fellow in the University of Tokushima under Prof. Masuo Fukui (discoverer of long-range plasmons and mentor to Nobel laureate Prof. Shuji Nakamura). From 2006 David spent two years as an associate researcher and Plasmonics group leader in Prof. Xiang Zhang's laboratory at UC Berkeley. David's research experience includes theoretical analysis and experimental investigation of plasmons, sub-wavelength waveguiding & guided modes of photonic crystals and metamaterials. His research articles have been cited 4659 times and his h-index is 22. Since November 2008, David moved from research to publishing, as an editor at Nature Photonics. He is also an adjunct researcher at Queens College, City University of New York.
