Our Vision

Growth in global energy consumption will be slowed and then reversed. UC Santa Barbara’s Institute for Energy Efficiency will have a leading role, both in technology and in thought, in that reversal. Economic growth in both developed and emerging economies will continue without driving growth in energy consumption.

Our Mission

The mission of UCSB’s Institute for Energy Efficiency is to:

  • Leverage and accelerate extant research, and foster new research initiatives, to develop technologies that substantially increase energy efficiency in supplanting current technologies;
  • Facilitate and accelerate the commercialization and globalization of those energy-efficient technologies; and
  • Lead global thought in energy efficiency through international conferences and symposia, residencies, comprehensive external communications, and staffing the Institute with leaders in the field.
